Annual Fall Camping Trip to Emigrant

September 19th-22nd was our annual fall camping trip to Emigrant Springs.  The weather was a little cooler this year but still pretty good.  Olivia joined Grandma and Grandpa.  Lydia loved caring for her!

This is the beginning of the treasure hunt Grandma always does for the kids.  Hyrum was "too old" for the hunt but still expected a treasure at the end!

Playing in the dirt with some fellow campers
Having fun playing Tiki Torch

You want to know who took this photo?  The Husband of the Year, my very own Jonnie!   This is the first year Jon has EVER joined us and it was a surprise, a BIG surprise!  Typically Jon spends nearly every available minute hunting in September.  That's part of the reason I plan this annual camping trip; I enjoy camping and I enjoy not being alone.  This year Jon filled his elk tag opening weekend (Labor Day).  He could still archery hunt for a deer but he usually doesn't.  I mentioned to him back on Labor Day weekend that maybe since he filled his tag he could join us at Emigrant in a few weeks.  He made it very clear that that was not possible and would not happen.  He ended up buying a second elk tag AND his cousin and his cousin's friend were here hunting with him from South Dakota during the week/weekend we went to Emigrant.  I released any hopes or expectations of him coming and figured there was a 0% chance.
As much as I enjoy this experience, I have to admit, this year was a bit draining.  The nights were cold and Porter was awaking crying during most of them.  I got very little sleep, which by itself makes for a not-so-good-time.  Add to it the fact that I was a single mom to four children (two in diapers).  My parent's are wonderful helpers but it's different than having the other parent, who holds equal responsibility.
Friday night I was sitting at the picnic table eating dinner with my Dad, exhausted.  (My Mom had gone home for the day to attend a lunch with friends).  I shared with him that it's difficult being a single parent.  I was thinking it would be so nice to go take a long hot shower and not have to worry about hurrying back to the children.  Just then the most amazing thing happened...
Our little blue Camry came around the corner with Jon driving.  Only once in my life have I ever been that shocked (when Jon unofficially proposed for the first time).  It's hard to describe with words my feelings at the time... shock, disbelief, too good to be true, really???, this is amazing!, so happy, Oh, how I LOVE my husband, perfect timing, a dream come true!!!
It was so uncharacteristic of Jon to show up there.  Earlier that day he'd been down by Brownlee hunting with his cousin's friend, several miles in.  They came out because Ryan, Jon's cousin, who was in Weiser, wasn't feeling well and wanted to head back to South Dakota.  After hiking out, packing up camp and the trailer and driving home, Jon decided to jump in the car and drive 2 1/2 more hours to come spend about 36 hrs with us.
I was overjoyed!  It felt like someone had just lifted a heavy burden off my back; my dear sweet husband had!

LOVE this little boy!

Lydia played my favorite sport for the first time this fall.  She did a great job and had a lot of fun.

Such a handsome little guy!
Zerin and Porter and I were her number one fans.  Dad was off hunting most of the time and Hyrum was busy with football.  Zerin would yell, "Go Sissa!"

Lydia's 7th Birthday

Happy 7th Birthday, Lydia!  She's a social bug with many friends.  Ten little girls, including her, and three didn't come.  It was quite the party!

Having fun with Limbo

water relay

The pool was intended for swimming but I guess that's what we get for having it filled up!

Water balloon toss

Bubble gum blowing contest

Pinata!

Of course this little guy thought he had to be a part of all the fun.

New bike!

Coconut milk ice cream for cake.  I LOVE that grin!

This is typical in our home at bed time.  The "horsey" is how Lydia and Zerin make it upstairs to their beds.

This was fun until he realized he couldn't get it off his head.  Yikes!

My Greastest Blessings!
