July 2015 and Happy 36th Birthday, Mom!

Precious snuggles.  Every mama needs snuggles.  Ephraim, you're so precious!

July 3rd, Jon, Ephraim, and I hiked into Six Lake Basin.  Exactly two years ago we did this same hike with baby Porter.  This time we decided to take the longer hike starting before Black Lake.   We were told it was longer, but prettier and a little more level climbing.  All in all, we decided we like the Black Lake route better.  The hike out that afternoon was lots of sun and pretty toasty.  I'm sure part of the problem was the extreme heat we were having.  When we pulled back into the cabin that evening about 4:30 it was 106 degrees.  I believe we had at least 11 days in a row of triple digits.
Ephraim didn't do as well as Porter did.  Porter took a pacifier so he rarely cried.  Ephraim, on the other hand, doesn't take a pacifier and only sucks his thumb when he wants to.  He's also a tummy sleeper and not used to sleeping anywhere besides his crib.  I ended up carrying him probably a little over half way on our way in just to give Jon a break from his crying.  Jon was kind and carried him out the entire way.

Such a sweet little 8 1/2 month old!

Can you find Waldo... I mean Jon?

Ephraim was so happy to be put down and get to play on the ground for a bit.  It's hard to be stuck in a backpack or held all the time when you're as active as this little guy!

Enjoying a little PBJ after the hike

The next day was the fourth of July and all the fun festivities that come with that.

It was a hot one, for sure!

Cooling off in the river, hooray!

After the porcupine races we went up to McCall to drop Hyrum off with David and Jeanne.  They were there for a family reunion.  We played in the lake with them and had a BBQ dinner.  Then we bid our sweet Hyrum farewell for three weeks! and headed back to Council.  Hyrum delivered phones books, did various chores on their 100 acre property, and had a great time with Cooper.  We sure missed him!

Fireworks at the Council football field.  The little ones were exhausted from the long day in the heat so I kept Zerin and Ephraim at the cabin while Jon took Lydia and Porter (who napped all the way back from McCall) to the fireworks.  I was pleasantly surprised to find out we actually have a pretty good view of the fireworks from our front yard!

Happy 36th Birthday, Mom!  Wow, the years sure have flown by!   My birthday fell on a Tuesday this year and it also happened to be the week of Treva's vacation.  Which means I had to work all day Monday and Wednesday and 1/2 day Tuesday.  After work, Dad and I went out to dinner at Fiesta and then Dad kept the younger two while I took Lydia and Zerin bowling.  (Lydia holding my coconut pie)

These two sure were great bowlers!  So much fun!

Glad I got to spend my birthday with these two cool kids!

Way to celebrate, buddy!

Not quite nine months and look at him go!

Lydia loves to stay up later than she's suppose to and I always give in because she offers to massage me or do my hair.  How could I resist???

We drove the truck up a little past Brundage and then brought the side by side up to Hazard Lake.  We hiked into Lower Hazard Lake and the one just past there.  I believe it was about five miles round trip.  I carried Ephraim, Jon carried Porter and Lydia and Zerin walked.  I had to carry Zerin a bit towards the end but for the most part he did amazing!

Porter loved riding on his daddy's back!

Again, we were missing you, Hyrum!  Hyrum was in Washington for three weeks and one day.  He was home for about 12 hours and left for six days to Scout camp.

Such pretty country!  Jon made the comment that he's always glad when July's over.  That surprised me because I've always loved July.  Not only is it my birthday month, it's also a month full of camping, hiking and outdoor fun.  Yeah, it's usually a hot one, but that's why we try to get up to the mountains more often.  July is the month I get out and enjoy nature because Jon's not hunting or scouting and we do more activities as a family.

Nice fish, Zerin!

Oh, how I love this child!

Food storage fun with the Richins
